Article VI of the Constitution creates the Supreme Court of California and the Courts of Appeal to exercise the judicial power of the state at the appellate level. Article VI also creates the Judicial Council of California to administer the state's judicial system. Chapter 869, Statutes of 1997, created the California Habeas Corpus Resource Center to represent any person financially unable to employ appellate counsel in capital cases.

Chapter 850, Statutes of 1997, enacted the Lockyer-Isenberg Trial Court Funding Act of 1997 to provide a stable and consistent funding source for the trial courts. More.....

  • Courts Reductions-The Budget includes a $200 million General Fund unallocated reduction to the courts. The Administration will work with the stakeholders and the Legislature to explore ways to implement this reduction while attempting to minimize the impact to trial court operations.
